The number of Facebook users has jumped to 1.5 billion
Facebook has cemented its place as the king of the social networks with its latest financial results, which revealed another spike in user numbers.
1.59 billion people are now active on Facebook every single month, an increase of 14% on the previous year. More than a billion people now also use Facebook every single day.
In a further boost to the social networking powerhouse, the number of people accessing their Facebook profile from a mobile device – a smartphone or tablet – was also up to 934 million every day, and 1.44 billion every month.
Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said of the results: “2015 was a great year for Facebook. Our community continued to grow and our business is thriving.
“We continue to invest in better serving our community, building our business, and connecting the world.”
In comparison, struggling rival Twitter has around 320 million monthly users.
On the money front Facebook also confirmed it was a record-breaking year, with revenue of £12.5 billion for the year, a rise of 44%.
Advertising was also huge for Facebook, as 5.6 billion US dollars of the 5.8 billion dollar revenue from the last three months was brought in from advertising on the site. And this figure was up more than 50% on last year.
In short, it was a very good year for Facebook, and with Oculus, the virtual reality firm it bought in 2014 set to launch its first VR headset in the coming months, 2016 could be a big year for the platform too.
