Samsung ‘transparent’ safety truck hits the road

Clever new camera tech, designed to aid overtaking, is being trialed by trucks in Argentina.

Overtaking a truck is one of the most dangerous manoeuvres in modern driving, with the sheer size of lorries obscuring the view ahead and potentially leaving other drivers frustrated. In 2015 Samsung showcased a remarkable solution to the problem that could reduce collisions and injuries,

Inspired by the shocking statistic that almost one person dies every hour on the roads of Argentina, Samsung has created the Safety Truck – which uses its expertise with digital displays to give road users behind a clear view of the road ahead.

Check out the video below to see it in action:

Cameras mounted on the front of the truck pass a signal wirelessly to four screens on the rear of the truck’s load area, allowing drivers to get a clear view of the road ahead and pass with greater safety.

The truck is now being tested on public roads over a four-month test period.

If testing is successful Samsung is planning on expanding across Argentina, before rolled it out globally. With the cost of hardware falling all the time, it could become a life-saving addition to new HGVs in just a few years.
