Fiat, the Italian automaker will launch the much-awaited Abarth Punto hatchback in India on October 10, 2015. It will be the most powerful hatchback in its league. Fiat Caffe outlets have already started taking pre-orders for the hatchback at a token amount of INR 20,000. It will be the second Abarth powered Fiat product in India. We expect that the hatchback will be priced around INR 10 lakh.
The Abarth Punto Evo is powered by a 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol engine that also powers the Fiat Linea sedan. This engine is tuned to offer 145bhp of power and 196Nm of torque. The company has made changes to suspension mechanism and ride height to improve overall driveability. The ride height has been reduced by 20mm while the suspension has been stiffened for more stability. The hatchback is now equipped with disc brakes at the rear instead of drums, and the flared wheel arches have been fitted to 16-inch wheels shod with 195/55 R16 Apollo tyres.
Talking about styling, the Abarth Punto looks largely identical to the range-topping 90bhp Fiat Punto diesel. The performance hatchback is equipped with new ‘Scorpion’ design for the alloy wheels, new contrasting colours around the grille, sporty decal that runs down the base of the doors, and the Abarth logos. The cabin gets all-black interior scheme, Abarth badges, new upholstery for seats with contrasting stitching in red and yellow and sportier steel pedals.
