Facebook users can create a personal Friends Day video
As the social network celebrates its 12th birthday, Facebook is allowing users to view a personalised video showing their Facebook friends
Users of the social network will be greeted by a video about them and their friends as part of a series of events to showcase how friendship dominates the site, which you can check out below.
To mark Friends Day the site also released an updated statistic on degrees of separation, which says the typical degree of separation between any two Facebook users is 3.57 people.
“This is a significant reflection of how closely connected the world has become,” Facebook said in a blog post
“When people connect, powerful things happen and lives are changed. We see this on Facebook every day, whether it’s an exchange with an old friend that brings a smile to your face or a new connection that changes your life path, or even the world.”
New friendship stickers for Facebook Messenger, with two new sets called Best Friends and Friendship, have also been made available to download from the Messenger sticker store for free.
And founder Mark Zuckerberg, along with fellow Facebook executive Sheryl Sandberg, held a Friends Day event at the company’s Menlo Park headquarters, where they hosted Facebook users with “extraordinary” stories of friendship.
The group included GirlCrew, a Facebook group originally created in Dublin, which empowers women to find friends and organise events in their area. There are now 22,000 people in GirlCrew Facebook groups in more than 40 cities worldwide.
